Attitudes to kings, law and election in the Old Norse translation of 1 Maccabees.

Abstract

Analyzes the Old Norse Saga of the Jews, and shows that the details of sacred history as represented in the Vulgate text of 1 Maccabees have been altered in ways that exhibit consistent attitudes towards political questions that were important to Icelanders and Norwegians in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
