Abstract
Over the next few years, I will be responsible for a series of articles for Geography which will highlight the critical role that a geographical interpretation might contribute to current debates of global significance. The subject of the articles will relate to two parallel themes, one of which - thinking through climate change - is introduced here. The first article to explore this theme is concerned with new approaches to predicting a rise in UK sea level, and appears later in this issue. The second theme, hazard and risk, will be in launched in the Summer 2008 issue of Geography.
