Detection of separation of laminated materials by reflected THz pulses.

Fletcher, J.R. and Swift, G.P. and Gallant, A. and Levitt, J. and Dai, D.C. and Chamberlain, J.M. (2006) 'Detection of separation of laminated materials by reflected THz pulses.', 9th European NDT Conference (ECNDT). Berlin.

A method is described for the detection and measurement of subwavelength gaps in laminated non-metallic materials, using numerical processing of returned THz echo pulses. Data from artificially constructed phantoms are presented. Deconvolution using a reference pulse gives depth resolution to a small fraction of a wavelength, enabling corresponding layer separations to be measured.
