Abstract
We compare experimentally Moving Mesh Partial Differential Equations (Huang et al. (1994)) to the String Gradient Weighted Moving Finite Element Method (Wacher et al. (2003)) applied to the viscous Burgers equation and to the porous medium equation in one dimension. The methods are tested on a travelling wave solution, the Barenblatt solution of the porous medium equation and on one of the waiting time solution discovered by Lacey (1983).
