Abstract
Recent commentators have drawn attention to what might be considered an epidemic of unhappiness (). The ‘politics of wellbeing’ are at the centre of political policy making (, ). While these comments could be dismissed as the concerns of the chattering classes, such worries are backed up by some pretty shocking and authoritative epidemiology.
