Abstract

In celebration of the contributions of the Geography Department at Glasgow to glacial geomorphology, we have taken this opportunity to publish for the first time maps of the snout of Fjallsjo¨ kull and its foreland from 1945 and 1965 (Figure A1). Although these maps were compiled by the Glasgow team in the late 1960s, they were never taken further than colour proofs. We have digitally enhanced the originals and updated the legends for the 1945 and 1965 maps for publication in this issue of SGJ alongside a sketch map of the glacier snout and its geomorphology based upon 1998 aerial photography (Figure A2) in order to: (a) make this valuable archive accessible to a wider audience; and (b) to illustrate the importance of continued research on the evolving glacial landsystems on modern glacier forelands.
